7 tips on how to reuse content

Having a good content plan doesn't mean you have to produce new content all the time. It's just as much about making the most of what you've already produced and then maximising its potential. Here are 7 tips on how to effectively recycle your content in different ways.

1. Link to previous content

One of the easiest things you can do is use new content to drive traffic to your existing content. Start with your old blog posts first and see if you can find a topic that can serve as an extension to the post you're currently writing on. For example, if you're writing an article about"Conversion optimization driving traffic", you can link to an old post that explains"What is conversion optimization?". When you include a link to an old post in a new article, it's important to make sure it's relevant to the reader. And one more thing: don't forget to update the links from your old posts. 2. Let the statistics do the talking

What you want to do by reusing content is to free up more time for you. It's also important not to waste time reusing the "wrong" content, i.e. content that your target audience doesn't find interesting or valuable enough.So how do you know which content to reuse? Well, you let the statistics do the talking! For example, do you have any blog posts that stand out because they've attracted extra traffic? 3. Convert previous content to another format

One of the easiest ways to use old content is to recreate it in a different format. This means, for example, taking one or more blog posts and creating infographics around the information in them, or taking your most popular podcast episode and picking out quotes and tips to share on social media. If you have high-quality content, it's often possible to turn this into many different formats to best suit all possible channels.

4. Make a new post of (and about) your old posts

As you can see, there are lots of tips and tricks you can use to squeeze the most out of all the content you produce. But there are even more tricks to use! Take your most-read blog posts and make a list, or write a summary of the month's/quarter's/year's trends and insights, listing your previous blog posts and writing briefly about what each post is about. This can then serve as a perfect outline that you can use as a recurring feature in your newsletter or blog, for example.

5. Don't leave old video footage lying around

Do you have lots of video footage from webinars, commercials or tutorials? Think about how you can best reuse it. For example, you could cut out parts of a longer film and make it into shorter clips to fit your social channels.Another effective way to build up a content bank with lots of content is to create GIFs of funny/crazy/cool parts of longer video formats. That way you'll always have moving content to share across all your channels.

6. Convert customer cases to video format

Have you invested time and resources in developing exciting customer cases that describe how your product/service has helped one of your satisfied customers? Or do you have a bunch of great testimonials from customers? Perfect! Then you've got a really good foundation to build on and turn these into video format.With the script ready, just get out the film camera and let those who have already spoken do so on film too. Remember, there's no need to fuss here, keep the film short and concise as what you want to focus on is how your company has helped this particular customer.


7. The timeless content

Perhaps you've heard of the term " evergreen content"? It's usually used for content that is timeless and it's something you should definitely make sure is part of your content strategy. It could be content around topics that come up every season, like recipes for gingerbread or how to tie a Midsummer wreath, or it could be content that answers perennial questions like "What is content marketing?". This type of content has a long lifespan and will therefore continue to bring traffic to your site for a long time.
