The customer journey: does it have to be so expensive to create an animated video?

A while ago I got in touch with a company that wanted to start working more with animated video. They told me that they had been thinking about doing more moving image work for a long time, but felt that the quotes they had received were too expensive.I told them that there is a way of working that allows companies to produce animated videos without paying a fortune. The client was curious and we decided to have a chat to find out if we could still help them in any way.The goal of the video?I started by asking what the goal of the video would be and how it would be used. They told me that it would be shared on social media and posted on their website. The message of the video?I also asked if they had given any thought to what message they would communicate in the video. They thought they wanted to explain how awesome their service was and that they wanted to try to include as much as possible in the video. My advice was that they should focus on a message that was based on their customers' challenges and needs. Then tell them how they help their customers solve those challenges.

Video length?

In this way, the video would also be no more than 59 seconds so that it could be used across all their social media channels. They liked the idea and started to get curious about how we could help them produce a video.

The importance of measuring?

Before I started going into pricing, I asked if they had any measurement tools so that they could track how much the video had engaged potential customers...in other words, what results the video had generated. I told them that we always measure everything we do when it comes to content in terms of video and text. Why this is important is to be able to see in black and white what works and what doesn't. For example, just because you put all your money into a giant production doesn't mean that the results will be the same.

You don't have to bet big!

Therefore, my recommendation was to make a simpler investment or instead of a large investment, use that budget to produce 2-3 shorter videos with different messages to measure which one gives the best results. The client was a bit surprised as the other agencies had not talked about results at all but only about the creative height of the video.

What is the process of producing an animated video?

They asked how we worked to produce an animated film and I explained that we work with a network of global freelancers combined with local project management. This way we can put together an awesome video team remotely that can deliver high quality, fast and at a good price.I explained that we put together a team based on the clients' needs. For example, this client didn't have any material ready, just an idea. I then explained that we use a scriptwriter who develops a script and a story (message) based on their idea. Then we put forward a suitable person to record their voiceover. A storyboard is developed and from that a voiceover is made and then animators create an animated video.A first draft of the full video is sent to the client for revisions. The client then usually comes up with some small changes which we then adjust. Once the video is approved, we add subtitles (important as only 85% of all videos on Facebook are shown without sound). Depending on the amount of work to be done, this process usually takes between 4-8 weeks.

How do we proceed?

The client felt comfortable with our process and our unique business model and wanted to work with us. Then we decided on a time for a start-up meeting as the start of a fun and result-oriented collaboration. If you want to see some different videos that we have made, just jump into our YouTube channel. If you are curious about working more with video, just give us a shout and we can answer any questions.Best wishesPhilip OtterMail: philip .otter@contitude.comMobile: 070 007 97 48
